And she did by using the Head YouTek IG INSTINCT.

The slim aerodynamic frame geometry in the racquet frame makes it more maneuverable and allow for faster speeds. The shaft is robust with a stable cross section, with provides maximum stiffness in the area with the highest blending moment.

All of this means use of less energy when hitting the ball, which allows you to go all the way in those long set matches.

There are two types of the instinct. The MP and the S with the s having a 660 cm2 compared to 645 cm2 for the MP. The S is also 30 grams lighter checking in at 270g.

How did he do it you might ask. Practice? Conditioning?

Why play with a new and improved racquet, of course.

Djokovic played 2011 with the second generation HEAD YouTek Speed racquet in his hand. Something that may have helped give him the edge.

“The name is Speed, and the racquet gives me a lot of speed in this aggressive game,” Djokovic said. We have been working hard on the racquet in order to improve it as much as possible.”

HEAD’s YouTek™ concept aims to provide tennis players with the perfect racquets for their individual game. The new YouTek™ IG Speed is specially designed for the needs of players like Novak Djokovic. Innegra™ promises to bring racquet innovation to another level. Extremely tough and light, Innegra™ has the lowest density of any existing fiber and, combined with carbon fiber, forms an ultra-tough hybrid-composite structure. The result: improved stability and increased shock absorption. Racquet vibration from ball impact is reduced by up to 17 percent, yielding unmatched control and precision.

There are five different YouTek 300 racquets out on the market for various types of performance.

YouTek IG Speed MP: The Speed MP is the perfect combination of power and control for heavy hitters with a long fast swing style. It is available in three models, accommodating a wide range of players. You’ll never want to put this racquet down!

- YouTek IG Speed MP 18/20 ($199.95): The MP 18/20 is Novak Djokovic’s Weapon of Choice

- YouTek IG Speed MP 16/19 ($199.95): The MP 16/19 has a more open string pattern and a slightly longer length for added reach.

- YouTek IG Speed 300 ($199.95): The MP 300 is a slightly more powerful version with added maneuverability

YouTek IG Speed Elite ($189.95): A Tour Light version providing complete tour performance with greater maneuverability. The slightly wider beam gives it even more power.

YouTek IG Speed Lite ($189.95): This is the lightest racquet in the Speed series. A great tweener providing the perfect combination of power, manoeuvrability, control and feel. It’s the excellent tour racquet for players with a moderate swing style.

The racquets are available at all major retail locations. Pick one up for your tennis pro.

FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY – The Cinderella stories are over for the two young American girls who made so much noise two days ago.

Both Christina McHale and Irina Falconi lost their matches today – McHale to Maria Kirilenko, 2-6 3-6 and Falconi to Sabine Lisicki 0-6 1-6 – but there first few matches give hope for the future of American tennis.

“I had two really good wins my first two matches,” said McHale after her match today. “This one, it’s disappointing. But, yeah, I think I just kind of have to take the positives from it and keep working hard and, yeah, keep going.”

Added Falconi: “I am just going to take this week and the next week as a huge stage on my career, hopefully what can translate into a follow-up fall season. Next week I go to Quebec City for a tour event and hopefully do some damage there as well. There is nothing but positives to take out of this week.”

Both girls showed their inexperience today. Neither of them was attacking the ball like they did on Wednesday and even admitted to playing tentative.

“I was too passive today,” McHale said. “I think the other day I took my chances when I had them. But [Kirilenko] was playing well, too, so it made it difficult today.”

And then there were the bright lights of Ashe, where she admitted she was a little nervous playing under the lights in front of the sold out crowd.

“I think it didn’t really help me, my nerves, tonight,” McHale added. “I never really felt as comfortable as I wanted to feel on the court.”

Yet, it will be interesting to see how both girls handle their first success of the Open. Melanie Oudin melted under the pressure after her run two years ago and hasn’t made any noise since.

But Oudin could be considered a special situation. Both McHale and Falconi didn’t get the celebrity treatment like Ouidin did and the press didn’t start look into their personal lives.

Plus Oudin seemed to enjoy the celebrity spotlight, whereas both of these girls seems to care more about winning than stardom.

So it will be interesting to see how both do in the fall and then at the Australian Open come 2012. But it also important to remember they are both very young with McHale only 19 while Falconi can get a drink in bar…well barely. And it will take time for both players, so don’t get excited if one or both makes a quarterfinals and expect to see the second coming on Chris Everett.

Rather this is more like the baseball minor leagues where the two girls are honing their skills. Some success here will help them, but until they learn to be winning at a consistent level in high profile tournaments, they will remain prospects.

But all prospects have upside and this past week we may have just seen the future.

January 26, 2011 – Bordentown, NJ – Prince, global tennis equipment leader and master of the physics and design of tennis weaponry, is proud to officially announce the extended equipment partnership with the current No. 2 ranked woman in the world, and top-ranked Russian player, Vera Zvonareva.

Zvonareva made the switch to her current weapon of choice, the Prince EXO3 Black, early last year and subsequently enjoyed the best year of her career. After picking up the racquet, she went on to reach her first-ever Grand Slam finals (Wimbledon and US Open) and shot up the rankings from No.7 to No. 2 – a career high.

As Zvonareva heads into the semifinals of her third straight Grand Slam quarterfinal this week at the Australian Open, she is well aware that EXO3 technology has played an integral role in her improved play.

“I picked up the EXO3 Black early last year and immediately knew it was something special. Hi-speed video shows that pros frequently hit the ball out of the direct center of the string bed, as do players at other levels. The sport at our level is played at such a fast pace and along the smallest margins and with less reaction time that it is unavoidable,” said Zvonareva. “For me, EXO3 technology allows me to do more with every ball, even those that I hit on the run or at full stretch – and those few shots can often be the difference between winning and losing. I have a lot more wins since picking up this technology.”

What is EXO3 Racquet Technology?

EXO3 is a high-tech, patented racquet design, which utilizes large holes and String Suspension Inserts to deliver a superior, effective hitting area compared to competitor racquets with the same head size. The strings in an EXO3 racquet are completely liberated
from restrictive, response-strangling grommets, allowing the strings to respond more freely – even at the outer edges of the string plane for balls hit off-center. This technology delivers a larger, more consistent hitting area – at ANY head size – giving players at all levels the advantage of hitting better shots, more often because even balls hit off center feel and respond more as though they were hit in the center of the string bed.

August 5, 2010, Bordentown, NJ – Today marks the official fortieth anniversary of a true sporting goods brand and one of the most recognized, trusted names in tennis, Prince. In 1970, working in his Princeton, New Jersey, garage, inventor and entrepreneur Bob McClure reversed the motor on a household vacuum cleaner to produce the first commercially viable tennis ball machine. He called the machine the “Little Prince” and a true tennis brand was born. Today, forty years on, the company operates worldwide and celebrates a prolific history of providing some of the most important game-changing equipment advances to help all players play better, while supporting some of the most exciting athletes and grassroots programs.

Prince hit the world scene in the mid-1970’s when legendary engineer, Howard Head (who also invented the first metal alpine ski), using McClure’s ball machine to work on his tennis game, realized he could develop a racquet that would help him significantly raise his level of play and hit better shots, more often. Head patented the first “Oversize” tennis racquet in 1976 with a 110 square inch head, called it “The Prince,” and in doing so, ushered in a major tennis ‘boom’ by making tennis easier to play and more fun for millions of people. Head later bought the company from McClure, leveraged his innovative tennis racquet and grew the brand exponentially with a strong focus on performance tennis racquets – a focus that remains today.

“I remember when I first saw that new racquet in the mid to late seventies, I thought, what in the world is that? It looked completely different to the small, heavy wooden frames of the day, but it was helping all of these people play better tennis,” said legendary tennis coach Nick Bollettieri, Founder and President of the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida and long-time Prince supporter. “I remember young kids traveling all around in cars and vans to let players at private clubs, public courts, tournaments – wherever there was a tennis player – test out these new frames. And boy did it catch on! Pretty soon, you could not throw a stone near a tennis court without hitting someone using a Prince racquet. Our academy is proud to be affiliated with Prince products and we look forward to forty more years of their moving the game forward.”

Not only did recreational players take notice, but the world’s most elite players began to adopt the brand and its technology. From its first brand ambassadors like Pam Shriver, Gene Mayer, Jimmy Arias and Pat Cash, to later superstars like, Jimmy Connors, Martina Navratilova, Gabriela Sabatini, Michael Chang, Monica Seles, Andre Agassi, Jennifer Capriati, and Patrick Rafter, to today’s athletes like Maria Sharapova, John Isner, Gael Monfils, Sam Querrey, David Ferrer, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Mike and Bob Bryan, Prince has continued to be the brand of choice for the game’s most discerning athletes.

“I was one of the first players to play with Prince on tour,” said Pam Shriver, former top-ranked touring pro and current ESPN tennis analyst. “We were sort of this group of pioneers, but as soon as other players saw what we could do with the ball, how the racquets were helping our game, and the quality of the products being produced, they were not far behind. As a sixteen-year-old, I reached the finals of the 1978 U.S. Open after switching to a Prince racquet and without question it helped bring the brand into the tennis mainstream. Soon, it was as if there were “P” stencils everywhere. Prince is a truly authentic tennis brand – one that is actually much younger than all of its competitors – which makes the contributions it has made to this sport, in what is essentially a short period of time, even more impressive.”

Andre Agassi, wrote about his love for his Prince Graphite racquet and his hesitation in having to switch to another racquet brand in his autobiography Open. More recently, an American newcomer, John Isner captured the public’s attention after using his Prince racquets to win the epic marathon match at this year’s Wimbledon and Mike while Bob Bryan just set the all-time ATP doubles titles record at sixty-two wielding Prince frames. The brand continues to touch the lives of players worldwide.

Prince is the only major U.S.-owned and headquartered tennis manufacturer located just south of Princeton, New Jersey – approximately thirty miles from the site of Bob McClure’s garage. Today, the company is again privately owned, having at one time been part of both the Benetton Group of Companies as well as Chesebrough-Ponds, Inc. It has offices in England, Taiwan, France and China, maintains its industry-leading research and development facility outside Venice, Italy, and has distributor presence in more than 100 countries.

“At the end of the day, we strive to continue the mission set forth by Mr. McClure and Mr. Head – to help all player types, whether recreational or those competing at the game’s highest levels, hit more great shots, more often,” said Zach Perles, Vice President of Global Communications at Prince Sports, Inc. “We will continue to bring to market best-in-class products that help raise people’s level of play and support them with meaningful grassroots programs and industry partnerships designed to grow the game overall. We are an integral part of the fabric of this sport, proud of our past products, programs and players, but even more energized about our plans for the future. ”

Continual Innovation:
Game-changing innovation did not stop with the invention of Howard Head’s first “Oversize” racquet. Through the years, Prince has brought to market multiple revolutionary equipment products including inventing the first “longbody” racquet, introducing the Prince Original Graphite, offering the first “Natural Foot Shape” tennis shoe, and creating the first “multifilament” string.

Most recently, in 2005, the company debuted another revolutionary breakthrough in product design with the introduction of O-Technology in racquets. Eliminating restrictive grommet holes in the frame, this engineering feat used large holes and suspended the string bed facilitating more string movement for an enhanced sweet spot. Maria Sharapova won her U.S. Open (and subsequently her first Australian Open) using this new technology, and today there are nearly 100 players on tour who have switched to this racquet design innovation.

“We are extremely proud of the work being done in our R&D innovation center and what it means for current and future generations of tennis players,” said Roberto Gazzara, Vice President of Research and Development for Prince Sports, Inc. “The facilities here in Italy are developing breakthrough enhancements to products in all categories, every day. I truly believe we have the best team in the industry and will remain at the forefront of impactful, visible, proven developments designed to raise level of play and move the game forward.”

In fact, O-Technology was so well-regarded by the sporting goods industry that Prince was approached to license and export the design to other top sporting goods brands such as Reebok, Grays and Hoyt for products such as baseball bats, archery equipment and lacrosse, field hockey and ice hockey sticks. This new technology is now not only being played by athletes on tennis’ biggest Grand Slam stages, but in the Olympics, Stanley Cup Playoffs and College World Series as well.

The Future:
The next generation of top players choosing Prince looks equally strong. Today, in the United States, the company boasts nineteen junior players who are in the top fifteen in the nation in their respective age group, with five of these players in the top five. In Europe, one of the most important tennis markets in the world, the Company boasts forty #1 ranked boys their respective country (age group 12 to 18 years old) and thirty-eight #1 ranked girls in their country (age group 12 to 18 years old).

Additionally, the #1 ranked ITF junior boy in the world today, also chooses to play with Prince.

“The history this company has and the players who have played Prince before me are awesome and I am proud to be part of Prince’s history and future,” said 17-year-old Australian Jason Kubler, who is the current #1 ITF ranked junior boy in the world. “We are all a small part of the tradition and history of this brand and it really feels like being part of a team. I know the team at Prince knows how to produce champions and create products that help players raise their level of play and that is a good feeling to have as a young player.”

Milestones:
1970 – Bob McClure invents the first commercially viable ball machine by reversing the motor on a vacuum cleaner. The “Little Prince” is introduced and Prince Sports, Inc. is formed.
1976 –Howard Head engineers and patents the first “Prince” racquet – an “Oversize” frame at 110 square inches designed to deliver the largest sweet spot. It revolutionizes the game.
1977 – Prince introduces the original Graphite, which becomes the first “top players” racquet and the standard by which all others are compared.
1978 – Prince invents the first multi-filament tennis string, which becomes an industry top seller that same year.
1985 – Seeing the need to go beyond the all-purpose shoe, Prince introduces the TPU-4000, a lightweight and durable shoe made specifically for tennis players.
1995 – Prince is the first company to introduce ‘Longbody’ technology, which launches Michael Chang to #2 in the world. His frame becomes the best-selling racquet in tennis.
2005 – Prince re-invents racquet design with introduction of O-Technology, which transforms traditional grommets into large holes. The technology platform is soon exported to brands in other sports. Maria Sharapova wins the 2006 U.S. Open with the Prince O3 White (which features O-technology). The racquet becomes the best selling model in the United States.
2009 – Building off the O-Tech platform, Prince introduces EXO3 racquet technology, which suspends the string bed for ultimate string movement resulting in a larger sweet spot. The technology is played at the games highest levels.

[CHICAGO] – Serena Williams made her presence known as she defended her Wimbledon title to Vera Zvonareva of Russia during the final match on Saturday.

The match was all about Serena’s well known power game as she defeated Zvonareva in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. “It feels incredible to defend my title here at Wimbledon,” Serena said after her victory. “Vera is such a great competitor but I knew that if I stuck to my game, I had a good chance of winning.”

With her [K] Blade Team racket, the 13 time Grand Slam champion held strong throughout the entire tournament and did not drop a set over two weeks at the All England Club. Serena knows that her powerful serve gives her an advantage on any opponent and hit 9 aces Saturday, taking her tournament total to a Wimbledon record- 89.

This title gives Serena her 4th Wimbledon in the span of eight years and her 13th Grand Slam overall. She is back at world No.1 and certain to stay at the top, where she has reigned for 110 weeks altogether. Serena currently stands as world No.1 at both singles and doubles, only the sixth woman in history to do so.

With this 13th title, Serena surpasses Billie Jean King’s 12 Grand Slam title record, and Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova are Williams’ next goal, with 18 majors each. “Honestly, I’m just doing what I can and working hard,” Williams said. “These great champions give me the motivation to reach my goals.”

[CHICAGO] – New decade, new racket, new record. Playing with his new Wilson Six.One Tour BLX tennis racket, Roger Federer proved once again why he is the greatest tennis player of all time. Federer’s 2010 Australian Open win marks his 16th Grand Slam title, surpassing his own all-time record of 15 major titles.

Federer’s continued success is due in part to Wilson’s ever evolving technology and BLX is no exception. Federer switched to his new Six.One Tour BLX racket at the beginning of 2010. “Wilson continues to provide rackets with the most cutting edge technology and this racket really gives me the extra feel I look for,” Federer said after claiming the title. “My new BLX racket provides me with the extra edge I needed to succeed.”

The #1 player in the world stayed strong throughout the entire match in Rod Laver Arena winning 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (11). Federer broke Murray’s serve twice in the opening set and once in the second. Federer rallied from 5-2 down in the third, breaking Murray when he served in attempt to push the match into a fourth set.

Federer solidified his #1 ranking for a 268th week and tied Jimmy Connors in third place on the all-time list. Since 2004, he has reached at least the semi-finals of every Grand Slam. He continued his Grand Slam streak with a 23rd consecutive semi-final appearance.

“It’s an incredible feeling to continue this streak and my success at Grand Slams,” Federer said. “This 16th title means the world to me and I hope to keep this streak alive.”

Once again, Federer has raised the bar in the game of tennis and provide another benchmark for his competitors to work harder, play better and achieve more. He is still No.1 in the world and even with competition snapping at heels everyday, the legacy continues.

January 31, 2010 – Bordentown, NJ, – Defending champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan took home their second consecutive men’s doubles crown at the 2010 Australian Open Saturday evening and their eighth Grand Slam title overall beating rivals Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in three sets, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.

With their EXO3 Ignite Team 95 racquets, which they switched to late last year, the 31-year old American twins are now just four titles away from reaching the all-time record, currently held by Australian greats Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde with 61.

“It feels great to come back to Melbourne and defend our title, capture another Grand Slam and take one step closer to the all-time title record,” said Bob Bryan. ”It is exactly how we hoped to kick-off 2010.”

The Bryans decided late last year to make a switch in racquets in order to achieve more control while still getting the ‘pop’ they need on serves and ground strokes. Their decision, after hitting only a few balls, was to pick up EXO3 technology and come down a bit in head size with the EXO3 Ignite Team 95.

“It is crucial in doubles to keep return of serves low and we feel as though we have better ability to do that with the EXO3 Ignite Team. But while it gives us added control and maneuverability, we are still able to deliver the power and pace we need on our serves and balls hit from the baseline,” said Bob Bryan. “It is just a fantastic all-court racquet and one of the things we loved instantly was the ‘clunk’ solid sound it makes upon ball strike.”

“The doubles game is getting better. Teams are improving and strong singles players on tour are starting to learn how to play. We need to continue to get better and evolve our game and without question we think we have improved since making the racquet switch. It was important for me to be able to carve out some more angles at net and do more with short balls,” said Mike Bryan.

The switch has proved to be a smart move. Aside from taking home the year’s first Grand Slam event, the Bryans executed a dramatic end to last season when for the fifth time, they ended the year as the world’s top team by winning the ATP Tour Doubles Finals in London. They came into that tournament 800 points behind Nestor and Zimonjic, but in the end, claimed the year-end No.1 ranking.

Even their father, coach Wayne Bryan, echoes Mike and Bob’s feelings about their new frames. “The Bros. absolutely love them and say it has the best feel of any stick they have every played with – which really is a strong testament and says something special. And, they like the looks of it too. “

The Bryans are just two of more than 50 players on tour, including Nikolay Davydenko, Gael Monfils and Maria Sharapova among others, who are now taking advantage of Prince’s O-technology, a unique series of holes along the frame of the racquet.
